28/07/2026 Vogue AustraliaFor more than a decade, Artemest has built its reputation by curating the work of Italy’s finest artisans. Founded by 2015 by CEO Marco Credendino and creative director Ippolita Rostagno, the brand has become a go-to for décor, art, lighting, and furniture by over 1000 of the country’s top artisans and brands, with exclusive access to tens of thousands of handmade products. Now, armed with those years of expertise in curating, Artemest has turned its hand to creating, with its first collection of furniture designed by New York studio Gachot and produced by its network of Italian makers. This debut Artemest range is available exclusively in Australia through Obery.
Previewed at Palazzo Donizetti during Milan Design Week 2026, Gachot founders Christine and John Gachot conceived of the Artemest collection as “a dialogue between the clarity and restraint of New York modernism and the depth, tradition, and material richness of Italian making”. Natural woods, leather, fine metals and cast glass reflect a modernist vision that feels bold, yet lived-in and welcoming. “Inspired by our New York City living room, the collection is deeply personal,” say the duo. “Unpretentious yet rigorously considered, these are pieces intended to be lived with for decades to come.”
Similarly, Obery, the Auckland-based showroom with a new studio opening soon in Cremorne, Melbourne, specialises in collections united by exceptional craftsmanship, integrity of design, and timeless relevance. In addition to Artemest, Obery represents The Rug Company and Obery Hard Surfaces, which includes tiles by Studio Lucy McMillan.
“Our philosophy is about making sure that everything that’s there deserves to be there,” says Lindy Messam, managing director and one of Obery’s three co-founders, alongside CEO Glenn Obery and Creative Director Jane Mason. “In that sense, our thinking aligns beautifully with Gachot’s. Whether through careful restraint or considered layering, it’s ultimately about intention. Nothing is accidental,” she continues.
As for the new Artemest collection, “what really resonated with us was their commitment to preserving craftsmanship while presenting it through a contemporary lens,” says Messam. “That aligns perfectly with how we curate at Obery: we’re always looking for pieces with authenticity, longevity, and a genuine story behind them.” Mason adds: “Artemest represents a curated gateway to an extraordinary community of Italian artisans and makers, many of whom simply wouldn’t have the reach or visibility to access markets like Australia and New Zealand on their own.”
Alongside the Artemest Collection by GACHOT, standout pieces from the wider Artemest collection include the Haaga velvet sofa by Gianfranco Ferré Home; the Flo beige leather armchair by Lorenza Bozzoli for Ghidini 1961, part of a series celebrating Brazilian mid-century design; the Moby Dick armchair by Morelato; the Treetops floor lamp by Ettore Sottsass for Memphis Milano; and a range of ornate wall mirrors by Specchi Veneziani. Of the new GACHOT collection, however, one piece stands out for Messam. "My favourite is the Vignette Tea Table," she says. “What I love most is its scale and proportion. It’s much more than a side table. It becomes part of the way you live within a seating setting. I love those moments where you’re curled up in the corner of a sofa and there’s a beautiful table alongside you to curate the things you love: a stack of books, a small object, florals, a cup of tea or a glass of wine. Rather than demanding attention as the centrepiece of a room, it quietly supports the way people gather, relax, and live. That’s where its beauty lies.”
